The howl of vexing love
Loud and demanding
It splits the calmed man’s ears
And pounds in his head
The flashing lights
Colors candied and artificial
All thicken the air
Like vulgar perfume

Of all I’ve written
None do justice
To the softness of love
The weightless sheet
Which cools the skin
It is the slow deliberate movement
Focused but calm
Of a sylph
Dancing soundlessly

My high praise
Naught but vibrant language
To be stolen from the earth
And used like a child
What bitter irony to see
That the love I respect
Is most clearly witnessed
In the silence
And emptiness
I work so hard to deny
