My words turn to dust the moment they leave my mouth
They float below and leave dark speckles upon your feet
Soft as moth dust upon fluttering wings, pale like the moon
Inhabiting your bright shadow and holding you tight
So that the envious night sky cannot take you from me
So that it cannot place you among the stars as a crowning jewel
We hold back from being timeless such that we fade together
Perhaps in our last moment we’ll be connected in moonlit tranquility
Two fluttering wings of an ivory moth, two hearts fluttering into the darkness together
